| Marie Horner and Horner Recruitment – enters their fourth decade of recruitment! |
Marie Horner recently celebrated 31 years of trading in the recruitment industry and has a successful history to reflect upon. After being a consultant for a year, then managing a ten-desk firm for another year, Marie opened M Horner & Associates, in 1975, opposite Myer in Bourke Street.
“Two weeks of commencing salary” was the normal introduction fee and it wasn’t long before Marie moved to Collins St where she stayed for over 20 years. Effective staff training and strict adherence to our industry’s code of ethics saw Horner steadily increase in size and stature Marie also married and had two children between 1978 and 1981, so there is little doubt about her organisational skills! Marie then re-focussed on her business with a strategy to develop the then untapped market of International Trade and Logistics. This was a defining moment for Horner and it soon “owned” this market. Marie was also an early adapter of computerised recruiting. From 1988 her database was so comprehensive, estimates suggest it contained as much as 85% of all personnel in targeted industries. With such operational efficiency, market dominance was assured and this was due to Marie’s foresight and willingness to invest in her business. These days, after 30 years, Marie continues to direct Horner’s business operations. Our profession owes much to the dedication, vision and integrity of people like Marie Horner.
