Now in its 24th year, this established and highly regarded annual campaign continues to educate and stimulate behaviour change.<\/p>\n<p>Horner is committed to being an environmentally sustainable organisation and we encourage our community of candidates, clients and suppliers to do what they can too!\u00a0 Read further below for some of the initiatives at Horner.<\/p>\n<h2><b>Recycling Mythbusters<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>You might be surprised about what can and can\u2019t go in the recycling bin &#8211; it can be confusing!\u00a0 Recent reports about the &#8220;waste crisis&#8221; have reduced the trust Aussies have in council kerbside recycling. At a local level what gets recycled can change and also vary from council to council.<\/p>\n<p><b>So for National Recycling Week, Planet Ark has released the Top 7 myths so that you can reduce waste and trust that you\u2019re recycling right.\u00a0\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Myth #1: All recycling goes to landfill<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Busted: Recycling does actually get recycled<\/p>\n<p><b>Myth #2: My recycling responsibilities are done once it\u2019s in the bin<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Busted: Unless you\u2019re buying it back, you\u2019re not fully recycling<\/p>\n<p><b>Myth #3: All plastic with a triangle symbol can be put in my kerbside recycling bin<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Busted:\u00a0The Australasian Recycling Label is the ONLY evidence-based recycling symbol!<\/p>\n<p><b>Myth #4: The only way to recycle is via my council recycling bin<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Busted:\u00a0There are other ways to recycle aside from council recycling<\/p>\n<p><b>Myth #5: It\u2019s too hard to recycle at work<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Busted:\u00a0Recycling at work can be made easy<\/p>\n<p><b>Myth #6: Food scraps are not an issue in landfill<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Busted:\u00a0Food scraps cause greenhouse gas emissions in landfill<\/p>\n<p><strong>Myth #7: Recycling is my contribution to the environment<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Busted:\u00a0Reduce and reuse first, then recycle<\/p>\n<p>To find out more visit &#8211;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/recyclingnearyou.com.au\/nationalrecyclingweek\/mythbusters\/\">https:\/\/recyclingnearyou.com.au\/nationalrecyclingweek\/mythbusters\/<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>How is Horner being green?<\/h2>\n<p>Horner is committed to being an environmentally sustainable organisation and we encourage our community of candidates, clients and suppliers to do what they can too!\u00a0\u00a0Horner is committed to being an environmentally sustainable organisation and has a well-developed Environmental Policy which covers initiatives within our supply chain relating to products we purchase, suppliers we use as well as the recycling, reduction or reuse of materials.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the initiatives at Horner include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Using digital documents\/processes wherever possible ie online candidate application process; digital screening\/filing of all resumes; e-timesheets; and emailing reports.<\/li>\n<li>No bin policy at our desks which forces us to go use the right bin for recycling, food waste etc<\/li>\n<li>Utilising technology such as Skype or Facetime to interview candidates or have meetings with the clients to reduce the use of cars.<\/li>\n<li>Collecting milk bottle tops\u00a0to donate to Melbourne based company, Envision Hands,\u00a0to make prosthetic hands and arms.<\/li>\n<li>Recycling our coffee pods for our coffee machines.<\/li>\n<li>Introduction of Keep Cups to reduce the use of disposable coffee cups.<\/li>\n<li>Changing our energy plan to 100% green electricity saving over 25 tonnes in greenhouse gas emissions per year.<\/li>\n<li>Mandatory sorting\/recycling.<\/li>\n<li>Purchasing recycled paper\/other environmentally friendly consumables.<\/li>\n<li>Undertaking regular and accredited Testing &amp; Tagging program to reduce using unsafe or out of date energy-consuming equipment.<\/li>\n<li>Environmentally sustainable office design.<\/li>\n<li>Showering facilities to enable staff to ride to work or do exercised before, at lunch or after work<\/li>\n<li>Staff incentives to encourage carpooling\/public transport.<\/li>\n<li>As well as partnering with clients and choosing suppliers that have an environmental policy or are sustainability-focused.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We encourage all our Horner Community to be involved in being greener!
