{"id":2613,"date":"2023-03-14T03:00:42","date_gmt":"2023-03-14T03:00:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/horner-au.ap.applyflow.com\/uncategorized\/employment-trends-february-2023\/"},"modified":"2024-11-12T02:20:58","modified_gmt":"2024-11-12T02:20:58","slug":"employment-trends-february-2023","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.horner.com.au\/employment-trends-february-2023\/","title":{"rendered":"Employment Trends \u2013 February 2023"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>Employment Market Overview<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Snapshot of current employment trends for February 2023:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Unemployment rate remained at\u00a03.5%<\/li>\n<li>Youth unemployment rate increased to 7.9%<\/li>\n<li>Participation rate decreased to 66.6%<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.seek.com.au\/about\/news\/seek-employment-report-job-ads-record-a-marginal-fall-in-february\">SEEK\u00a0<\/a>reported job ads decreased 1.6% month-on-month (m\/m) and are 12.2% lower year-on-year (y\/y).<\/li>\n<li>Applications per job m\/m on SEEK down 1.85%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Of the February data, Kendra Banks, Managing Director, SEEK ANZ, says:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe job market remains tight when comparing to pre-COVID, but in the context of last year\u2019s Great Job Boom, the market has eased and candidate activity is returning to normal levels.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>SEEK\u00a0reported that whilst\u00a0applications per job ad also fell for the first time in eight months, current levels remain among the highest they have been in the past two years.<\/p>\n<p>LinkedIn&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/pulse\/labor-markets-remain-resilient-poised-lose-steam-\/\">State of the Market<\/a>\u00a0newsletter similarly shows that the labour market has cooled to back to pre-pandemic levels.\u00a0LinkedIn reported\u00a0that the ratio of job openings to active applicants in Australia is 4\u00a0active applicants per job opening.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hiringlab.org\/au\/blog\/2023\/02\/24\/february-2023-australian-labour-market-update\/\">Indeed<\/a>, job postings had fallen 11.8% by the end of January 2022 compared to a month earlier. Despite the large January decline, there are still more than twice as many job postings in January as there were prior to the pandemic.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Employment Trends &#8211; State &amp; Territory Insights<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>While job ads declined overall on SEEK, Northern Territory (5.0%), Western Australia (1.4%) and Tasmania (0.1%) actually recorded an increase in job ad volume in February 2023 on SEEK.<\/p>\n<p>For the states where job ads have fallen, SEEK reported the key industries influencing the decrease were:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>New South Wales: Hospitality &amp; Tourism roles fell 4.5%<\/li>\n<li>Victoria:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.horner.com.au\/recruitment\/labour-hire\/\">Trades &amp; Services<\/a> down 2.6%<\/li>\n<li>Queensland:\u00a0 11.5% drop in Information &amp; Communication Technology roles<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Is your organisation finding it challenging to find staff?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Horner recruits nationally across a diverse range of industries for roles from entry level to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.horner.com.au\/recruitment\/executive-management\/\">executive<\/a>.
