Australian Synchrotron Careers Open House Event Recap

19 July 2022

Due to the significant expansion of experimental facilities, our client ANSTO (Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation) is looking to fill a range of highly specialised roles to support and deliver the Bright program.  With most industries struggling to find experienced staff, recruiting for STEM roles is particularly challenging.

To help combat this, Horner recently partnered with ANSTO to hold a Careers Open House at the Australian Synchrotron in Clayton, Victoria.

About the event

As ANSTO seeks curiosity minded people, this was a rare opportunity to give potential employees an insight into what it is like to work at a world-class, cutting edge research facility as well as a chance to talk to leaders.

Held on Saturday, July 16th, the Careers Open House event included informative presentations by facility department managers and Horner Recruitment, a tour of the facility along with Q&A with staff members from various departments within the Synchrotron.

Candidates were given a firsthand look at what “life on the job” would be like as they broke off into small groups of their area of specialty for a tour walking around the facility with the department managers.  Attendees were able to find out more about the current job vacancies and talk with staff members about how their skills could be applied at the Synchrotron.

Watch this short video providing a snapshot of the event:

The event was a great success and was well attended with 46 very interested and highly engaged candidates which have resulted in a number of placements already.

ANSTO is proud to be partnering with Horner and loved showcasing our amazing facility to attract like-minded candidates to our current vacancies by providing an interactive recruitment exercise.”

Brad Mountford, Head of Engineering, ANSTO

Congratulations to lead Consultant Hanniel Dalla Rosa for coordinating the event and thank you to the ANSTO and Horner staff for volunteering their time to hold the event on a weekend.

Event Feedback

With an event rating of 4.7 out of 5, some of the positive feedback from attendees about what they liked about the event included:

“Good general introduction to the facilities and the opportunity to meet with staff face-to-face.”

“Well organised and splitting up into relevant engineering disciplines.”

“Lots of information and great people.”

“Was well organised and exceptionally informative.”

“Individual tours to specific destination based on participants’ interests.”

“Help people to have a deeper understanding of ANSTO.”

“Good information about the potential job.”

“I wish we can have more opportunities like the Open House.”
