DESCRIPTION
The Senior Health and Safety Consultant, under the guidance of the HSW General Manager will lead the organisational health and safety management system and promote a positive safety culture, so as to provide a safe work environment. They will provide advice and technical support for health and safety matters across the diverse work areas within the organisation.
The role ensures that health and safety risks are mitigated through robust, effective systems and processes. Close liaison with key stakeholders across the organisation is essential.
About the role:
- Up to $120K + super – commensurate to experience

- Mon – Fri standard business hours (PT or FT /3-5 days per week)
- Support the team across multiple sites over Melbourne
What you will be doing:
- Participate in the organisation’s continuous improvement program
- Lead safety risk management activities
- Lead incident investigations, including report and recommendations to prevent recurrence, for serious incidents
- Administer the Incident and Hazard and Chemical Management reporting system for worker safety
- Analyse incident and hazard data, generate reporting information and report on this at relevant meetings
- Maintain up to date OHS data systems
- Provide expert OHS advice across all levels of the organisation and departments, including incident investigation, ergonomic workstation assessments, chemical management, occupational violence and aggression, patient manual handling, redesign and redevelopment of workplaces, product evaluation and the OHS management of contractors.
- Administer the audit system for workplace safety audits
- Coordinate internal and external auditing to schedule, and ensure this meets OHS system, legislative and accreditation requirements
- Assist with the management of a safe workplace in relation to transmissible diseases in consultation with infection prevention and emergency management teams
- Provide OHS training and information, as required, across all levels of the organisation
- Coordinate emergency evacuation exercises for low risk, non-clinical areas and assist with other emergency exercises
- Lead OHS projects as directed
About you:
- Experience with occupational violence and aggression and/or patient manual handling
- Ability and flexibility to work in a number of teams
- High level report writing skills
- High level of computer literacy including MS Office package
- Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor
