Evaluation Manager

  • Practical Evaluation experience essential to this role
  • Academic researchers without practical evaluation experience need not apply
  • Work with Program Managers, the CEO, and Grantees

DESCRIPTION

The Ian Potter Foundation is a highly esteemed Australian philanthropic foundation that supports and promotes excellence and innovation. The Foundation, located in Melbourne’s CBD, was established in 1964 by Australian financier, businessman and philanthropist, Sir Ian Potter (1902 – 1994).

Be a part of an energetic and multi-disciplinary team working to deliver on Sir Ian’s vision of a fair, healthy, sustainable, and vibrant Australia.

Through its grantmaking, the Foundation seeks to invest in Australia’s intellectual capital, encouraging excellence and supporting Australia’s talent: the visionaries, social entrepreneurs, scientists, academics and researchers, artists, and teachers, and those who dedicate themselves to bettering our communities for the benefit of all.

The Foundation allocates it’s funding through four funding pillars that align to Sir Ian’s vision of a fair, healthy, sustainable, and vibrant Australia. Using your significant experience in research & evaluation, you will review and assess the outcomes of each grant across all pillars as they come to completion. You will also consider these outcomes collectively to assess the success of each program area and use the database to present data in an accessible manner that enables true reflection on areas of success, improvement, and development.

Working closely with the program managers you will evaluate program area guidelines and benchmarks to assist the program managers and their respective committees to inform and improve their grantmaking. This may involve presentations to the Committees and/or Board in some circumstances. The quality of available evaluation data will be enhanced by your support to grantees regarding their evaluations and your engaged follow up with grantees that require ongoing support.

Supported by a dedicated resource, you will enjoy providing direction and guidance to the Research & Evaluation officer, utilising this person’s skills to enhance the Foundation’s overall research and evaluation effort. You will work closely with grantees providing non-financial support that will include workshops for new grantees and potential applicants whilst focusing on upskilling grantees’ evaluation skills. You will collaborate with the IPF program management team to ensure that evaluation is embedded into the Foundation’s grant making and disseminate the IPF evaluation strategy. at sector-wide events and conferences.

There is potential for the successful candidate to shape and guide the Foundation’s approach to its grant making, both within each program area, as well as working with the CEO and the program management team to ensure the Foundation remains at the forefront of best practice philanthropy.

Your success in the role will be determined by your:

  • Evaluation experience, including organisational, systemic and/or programmatic evaluation experience
  • Report writing skills
  • Quantitative and Qualitative analysis & evaluation
  • Capacity to integrate well into an existing team environment
  • Ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders and organisations
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Facilitation skills running small to medium workshops and small coaching sessions, both in-person and online
  • Understanding of statistics and cost-benefit analyses (e.g., an ability to understand sample size, deadweight and other such calculations submitted by grantees to the Foundation)
  • Ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Your experience using and configuring databases
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

Join a team of likeminded individuals working with one of Australian’s most highly regarded philanthropic foundations where your role can really contribute to shaping outcomes for a better Australia. If you would like to work in a supportive professional philanthropic foundation that thinks deeply about the good practice of philanthropy, and that will support you to develop personally and professionally – this is a wonderful chance to take the next step in your career. Ideally you will have a degree or higher qualification (Masters or equivalent) within evaluation and/or considerable involvement and exposure to the Social Enterprise/Employment, Arts, Public Health, Early Childhood and Environment sectors.
